Black Economic Empowerment

BBD is a “Black Empowered” organisation as per the South African ICT Charter and has a BB-BEE rating of Level 4. Importantly, BBD is also recognised as a “Value Adding Enterprise”. This means that all procurement spend on BBD’s services by its clients is enhanced by a further factor of 1.25, amounting to 125% in BB-BEE procurement spend. Our ongoing strategy includes interventions to support the transformation process in South Africa, in support of broad-based black economic empowerment. This is demonstrated across a number of criteria, including:

Ownership by Previously Disadvantaged groups

Sphere Holdings, a black owned organisation, owns 35.75% of BBD shares (from 1 March 2007).

Procurement

BBD has a policy of purchasing goods and services from black owned or empowered companies wherever possible.

Training and Development

BBD engage up to 20 black Learners, Graduates & Interns per annum in on-going development initiatives.

Employees and Management

BBD is committed to growing the number of black employees and management. The Board of BBD includes 4 black Directors, one of which is female, of the total of 9 Board Members.

BBD supports the following programmes: Girls & Boys Town, Headway Clinic: Khomelela Project, Kids Haven, The Hope Factory, The Teddy Bear Clinic, Ivory Park Secondary School / Learning Channel initiative, Student Sponsorship Programme, University of Witwatersrand Foundation, UKZN Sizabantwana Project, CANSA, Philimpilo Community Care.
